When Beth Greulich’s husband, Geoff, was diagnosed with ALS in January 2023, their world shifted overnight. What followed, however, was a powerful reminder of the strength found in friendship. Beth’s longtime friend Donna Leidersdorf, devastated by the news, refused to stand still in the face of helplessness. Instead, she organized a team to walk and bike in Geoff’s honor at the ALS Network’s SoCal Ride, Walk & Roll to Cure ALS — transforming grief into action and awareness.

For Donna, participation was deeply personal. She and her husband Craig saw this as a way to stand beside Beth and Jeff like family while contributing to the search for a cure. For Beth, the gesture was “such a beautiful thing”—a testament to the steadfast leadership women so often provide in times of crisis.
During Women’s History Month, the ALS Network honors women like Beth and Donna, whose compassion, resilience, and determination strengthen the ALS community and move us closer to a world without this disease.
