The Independent: Livermore Lab Scientists Seek Potential ALS Cure
LIVERMORE — Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) scientists are making progress with high-performance computing machines, including the supercomputer Tuolumne, and a tailored artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm to search for drugs to treat amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a debilitating neurodegenerative disease.
The LLNL team was previously funded by the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs in the U.S. Department of Defense. The work is currently funded from various sources. These include a $10,000 grant from the Livermore Lab Foundation and a $40,000 grant from ALS CURE Project, which organized the funding collaboration. The project receives additional support from Stanford University, the ALS Network and the RDM Positive Impact Foundation.
