Lou Gehrig Day
Celebrate Lou Gehrig Day with the ALS Network!
June marks the fourth annual Lou Gehrig Day. Celebrated throughout Major League Baseball (MLB) ballparks, the focus of this event is to honor the legacy of Gehrig and all those lost to the disease that bears his name. It’s a time to raise awareness and funds, and recognize the individuals and groups searching for effective treatments and cures for ALS.
Lou Gehrig was a record-setting player for the New York Yankees. Known as “The Iron Horse” for his incredible streak of 2,130 consecutive games, The MLB designated June 2 as Lou Gehrig Day - the anniversary of Gehrig becoming the Yankees’ starting first baseman in 1925. It also marks his death in 1941, at the age of 37, after a two year battle with ALS.
On Lou Gehrig Day, each home Club will host ceremonies and display “4-ALS” logos in ballparks, commemorating Gehrig’s uniform number “4.” Additionally, all players, managers and coaches will wear a special patch during the game.
Lou Gehrig Day will be commemorated on different dates with our MLB teams partners. Additional details about ceremonial elements, activations, and tickets will be announced when available. Please check each event below for more details! For questions, contact us at baseball@alsnetwork.org.
