For more than two decades, I’ve had the privilege of serving the ALS community as president and CEO of ALS Golden West. Helping shepherd this organization into a nationally renowned bastion of care and compassion has been one of the great honors of my life.
Starting February 1, 2024, I’ll pass the torch to another esteemed leader and assume the role of president emeritus as part of a long-established succession plan. In this new position, I will provide consultation on a broad range of topics. I will also offer guidance in expanding our research program, and engage supporters who make transformational gifts to advance our priorities and special initiatives.
Throughout the years, I’ve championed organizational change with the goal of improving the quality of care and quality of life for those diagnosed with ALS and their loved ones. But I haven’t done it alone. I’ve collaborated with some of the most passionate, dedicated, thoughtful people I’ve ever met.
Together, we grew the organization from serving 230 people living with ALS a year to more than 2,000. Together, we built a seamless multidisciplinary model of care that unites professionals specifically trained to meet the needs of people living with ALS. Together, we launched the California ALS Research Network to catalyze discovery through unique partnerships and investments. Together, we forged an advocacy program that has garnered millions of dollars in government support, enacting new laws and programs to fight ALS and create greater access to quality care.
I’m pleased to transition my role as president and CEO to our current chief operating officer Sheri Strahl, MBA, MPH. She is a dynamic, servant leader that will guide this organization with ingenuity and integrity. In addition to Sheri’s appointment, ALS Golden West will be renamed and rebranded to reflect our unwavering commitment to meet the needs of our community head-on, and to challenge the status quo in bold and revolutionary ways. You’ll learn more about these meaningful and exciting changes in early 2024.
Thank you for making the last 20 years as president and CEO deeply meaningful and memorable for me both professionally and personally. I greatly appreciate the opportunity to serve the ALS community in my new capacity, and look forward to the next phase of our journey together as I step into a role that allows me to continue to cultivate our noble mission with determination.
Collectively, we have created a strong network of brave people living with ALS, their loved ones, dedicated volunteers, community partners, health care experts, scientists, researchers, donors, and staff members – each of you personifies our cause and commitment to end ALS.
With appreciation,
Fred Fisher, MSW, LCSW President & CEO ALS Golden West |
