The ALS Network proudly announces the 20th annual Napa Valley Ride, Walk & Roll to Cure ALS® on Saturday, September 14, at Justin-Siena High School, in Napa, CA. This annual event brings incredible energy and an outpouring of support for those affected by ALS in Napa Valley. Participants are invited to join other members of the community for a family-friendly day of celebration, exercise, education, awareness, music, food, kids’ fun and so much more!

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, is a fatal, neurodegenerative illness that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. People with ALS lose the ability to move, speak, swallow, and, eventually, to breathe – all while their minds and senses continue to function.  People who have served in any branch of the military are diagnosed with ALS nearly twice as often as the general population. Currently, there are no known cures for ALS and only a few modestly effective treatments.

Since its inception by a dedicated grassroots committee in 2005, the Napa Valley Ride and Walk to Cure ALS has been a yearly opportunity for the ALS community to connect and fuel the search for effective treatments and cures for ALS. The Napa Valley Ride will be held at Justin-Siena High School (4026 Maher St, Napa, CA 94558). Everyone must check-in upon arrival and start time schedule is available on the event website.

“I lost my mother to ALS and It has been my mission to bring an end to this relentless, indiscriminate disease,” shared Bonnie Pybus, one of the founders and long-standing volunteers of the Napa Valley Ride. “It will take money, research, and constant determination to bring us to a cure.  I will stay that course, however long it may take.  But my hope is to make the journey to get there shorter.”

The mission of the ALS Network is to partner with the ALS community as we drive the discovery of prevention strategies, treatments, and cures for ALS; provide access to quality care and connection; and promote initiatives to improve health outcomes. The ALS Network, formerly ALS Golden West, serves people with ALS and their families throughout California and Hawaii. Everything we do advances the search for prevention strategies, effective treatments, and cures for ALS.
