The Golden West Chapter is grateful to our ohana on the islands for their continuing efforts to raise ALS awareness throughout ALS Awareness Month. Our ALS families on the island gathered together throughout the month of May to make a difference in our ALS community.

On May 15, people living with ALS and their loved ones gathered with Hawaii Governor Josh Green to sign a proclamation making May ALS Awareness and ALS Families Appreciation Month. All of us at the Golden West Chapter send a big mahalo to Governor Josh Green of Hawaii for signing the proclamation and continuing to make steps in the community to help people living with ALS and raise ALS awareness.

Our ALS community in Hawaii joined together for the Lei of Remembrance on Friday, May 26, in front of the Hawaii State Capitol in Honolulu. The Lei of Remembrance memorial ceremony began with sign waving, then a short ceremony to honor those who we have lost to ALS. One flower was strung on to a lei to represent each person who has passed with ALS in Hawaii since 1998. The lei was then hung on the Doris Duke statue at the Capitol. The Golden West Chapter is grateful to ALS Ohana and The ALS Foundation for their collaboration on this event.

In addition to the proclamation signed for the state of Hawaii, two proclamations from both cities of Maui and Hilo were signed to honor ALS Awareness month.

The Golden West Chapter sends a big mahalo to all, especially to our families in Hawaii & local government for supporting our mission priorities.
