The Running Bitcoin Challenge combines Hal Finney’s love of running and Bitcoin to raise funds and awareness to help end ALS, which claimed his life.
Since 2021, Hal’s wife, Fran Finney, has led the challenge in his memory by encouraging participants to run, walk, hike, or roll, to complete 21.1 km/13.1 miles (Hal’s favorite distance).
The challenge to advance the equivalent of a half-marathon – cumulatively or all at once – and raise ALS awareness has been an incredible experience alongside the Bitcoin community.
With over 83 participants and 17 teams from around the world, the ALS Network raised $50,000. The total includes proceeds from an art auction hosted by Scarce.City which featured more than 15 works of art from Bitcoin Artists. The auction raised over $16,000 of the grand total.
Proceeds benefit the ALS Network’s Hal Finney ALS/MND Research Fund.
Thanks to everyone who participated and joined this year’s challenge. While the main event is over, you can still participate in the challenge from anywhere, with donations and sign ups still accepted at runningbitcoin.us.
